What you need to know about week 2 of the games



We’re into week two of the games, which sees the start of some of the biggest and most iconic WPFG events... whilst others, including ice-hockey, get to the ‘business end’!

Toughest Competitor Alive gets underway today and Ultimate Firefighter tomorrow, not to mention beach volleyball on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Most events are open to the public and entry is FREE!

Here’s a flavour of what’s going on…

TCA (TOUGHEST COMPETITOR ALIVE)

Monday 5th – Thursday 8th August
Bangor Aurora & Bangor Sportsplex

TCA is one of the most hotly anticipated WPFG events. It is multi-discipline event consisting of 8 phases which have to be completed within one day's competition. The event is spread over 4 days to accommodate different age categories.

Phases of the event are as follows:
 1) 5k Run
2) Shot Put
3) 100m Dash
4) 100m Swim
5) 20ft Rope Climb
6) Bench Press
7) Pull Ups
8) Obstacle Course


ULTIMATE FIREFIGHTER
Tuesday 6th, Thursday 8th August
Titanic Slipways

Ultimate Firefighter is one of the highlights of the games. It will take place at Titanic Slipways on the 6th, 7th and 8th of August and will feature firefighters from Brazil, Spain, the US, Canada, Australia, and Northern Ireland, to name a few countries. The event includes, amongst other aspects, a hose task, a high rise task, and an obstacle course.


SURFING
Tuesday 6th – Thursday 8th August
East Strand Portush

This event is open to the public and entry is free. Access will be on a first come, first served basis.  Beach volleyball and surf kayaking also take place at East Strand Portrush on the same days.











 
OPEN WATER SWIM
Tuesday 6th August
Bank Lane, Ballyholme



WRESTLING
Tuesday 6th – Wednesday 7th August
Shankhill Leisure Centre

A final schedule will be available after weigh-in.


TAEKWONDO
Wednesday 7th August
Shankill Leisure Centre

There will be two competition styles in the Taekwondo event: Poomsae and Kyorugi.  The Taekwondo competition will run in conjunction with the Wrestling competition.


GOLF
Monday 5th – Wednesday 7th August
Belvoir, Shandon, Malone Golf Club

There will be limited space available for the general public; access will be granted on a first come, first served basis. The designated viewing areas will be clearly identified at each venue.


TABLE TENNIS
Friday 9th and Saturday 10th August
Valley Leisure Centre, Newtownabbey

09:30am start. There will be a range of age categories offered for men and women in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.


BADMINTON
Tuesday 6th – Saturday 10th August
National Badminton Centre, Lisburn

This event is open to the public and entry is free. Access will be on a first come, first served basis.
